Dense, erect, clumping grass with slightly arching, bright green foliage. Pinkish-purple flowers rise above the foliage in June and turn to golden tan, sterile seeds that persist all winter. Prefers to stay moist while establishing. Tolerates erosion, clay soil, air pollution.
